Does anyone have the ongoing issues of the traffic receiver not working on the Garmins? I've had 3 different ones now that have had the traffic receiver but with all of them they stop working after about 10 - 12 months or so and it's not cheap to buy a new lead. I'm a bit over it and frustrated that the traffic receiver doesn't work. Any tips to fix this easily

Receivers don't break normally. Are you sure it's the receiver? Usually when I have traffic issues, it's normally glitch in software/firmware. Such as I haven't had HD traffic for several months ever since Garmin updated to 3.3 then Garmin couple days ago came out with 3.8 and all of sudden I'm getting full bars.

PS if it's broken within 12months, you can get a replacement under warranty from Garmin.

- Check the cable of your power/ receiver from Garmin, make sure they are in good condition. ( no break or crack etc).
- Call Garmin support team at your country to get trouble shoot the problem.
Sometimes was simple issue.
- Enable function on Garmin GPS or pay subscription for safety or live traffic update per yearly subscription.

I have only had my 2797 for about a week.
But Even though it takes about 10 seconds for live to function when I leave home in the morning, it can take up to 3/4 hour to start in the afternoon after work.

My old GPS occasionally took a while, but never that long.

Is it the unit or perhaps something I'm doing wrong?

OK to update.

Further web searching and investigation has revealed that the nuvi 2797 and other models have a FM antenna built into the cable.
In fringe areas, this is inadequate.
The powercable/ antenna does have a 3.5mm connector into which an additional external antenna can be plugged.

Herin lies the problem.
Garmin does not have a cable to plug into this.
I cannot find one on the web, in spite of several hours of searching
Either I find a traffic antenna (Not required or connectable)
Or I find GPS signal amplifiers (again not required)

Surely someone else out there has this problem?
Or is there someone who can suggest either somewhere I can obtain an antenna for FM signals (preferably amplified) or detail some way to make one?

Any, all help would be gratefully appreciated.

Post Garmin 775T traffic service

My Nuvi 775T traffic was flaky at the best of times but has stopped working altogether in the UK (it's ok using the same cable in the US) so don't know what's going on but I suspect that the service has been changed - I noticed that the subscription page says Auto - searching all the time - when I pressed the button a whole load of FM frequencies came up in the 97 - 104 MHz range - not seen these before. I'm probably going to upgrade the device to a newer model Sad

i have Nuvi 2599 - for the last few months error message keeps coming up while driving "connected cable does not support this device". I've not changed anything and it was working Ok before, would this be the result of an update? It's a pain!

I am having the same problem. Garmin sent me a new cable but it does the same thing so can't of been the cable to begin with. I regularly update mine firmware, so can't be that the software needs updating as says all is up to date. Not sure what else to try other than to buy a new one. Mine Garmin is just over a year old and works fine other than the traffic feed is not working as it should. Some mornings it works fine, but come the afternoon it comes up with the error of "connected cable does not support this device".
Any suggestions that can fix this would be great?

I have a Nuvi 2599 and I have worked out with Halfords tech guy that it is the connection in the sat nav unit that has broken. my Garmin is 24 months old now. I have had this problem for three months, so out of date?
Any ideas any one?

I have the nuvi 2599 and after reading all your comments it would seem that this is a general problem with the traffic alerts. Worked fine when I bought it and I have the power lead withe the antenna. I must say it does not seem to help. It works when it wants too.
Come on Garmin, sort this problem out! Sad

I've also got a nuvi 2599 - about one year old and have exactly the same problem. Given the other comments regarding this unit, it looks like Garmin has produced a lemon device!

My Sat Nav Garmin Nuvi 2595LM also sends a message along the lines of 'this cable is not suitable for live traffic information' but it is the original cable and Im getting no live information about my route ahead. Is this a built in feature to ensure we all have to upgrade to maintain quality information? Jim Sad

I have a 2599, had the incorrect power cable message. Was 15 months old. Contacted garmin support, they swapped it for a refurbished one with no problems. Maybe it's an issue they are aware of with some units.

Post Hidden traffic setting to reset my 2559 trafic updates

I found the hidden reset. From the settings, select traffic (2nd page), then select the country and then the 3 bar symbol (top left). This gives you a reset option. After running reset I got traffic updates about 2 minutes later.
