|

HI,
I have been trying to load the POI files on the Garmin Mobile XT. I copied the .GPX files with the .BMP files and the sound files in the seperate files and then used the POI uploader to upload the files.
I thought keeping the files in seperate folder will create seperate GPI files but it still created 1 single .GPI file. I don't know what is going on here.
I tried to use the manual settings in the POI uploader, it showed me all the files and allowed me to select me the distance at which it should flash the warning but then it did not upload the voice prompts because the voice prompts did not work
Please Help |

Download Garmin poi uploader. See here how to install Garmin POI files using POI Loader. It'll use *.CSV and/or *.GPX files to make *.gpi files. Copy them to folder on sd card, "Gamin\poi" and all will work. If your POI are the
speedcam, you can adjust distance to announcement.

All your downloaded files MUST be in the same directory,
i.e. C:\Garmin\POI or in sub directories under POI.
C:\Garmin\POI\Safety
C:\Garmin\POI\Tourist_Locations
C:\Garmin\POI\Shopping
C:\Garmin\POI\Restaurants
..................etc etc
When you use the POI Loader, it loads everything into a single file called POI.GPI

| On Garmin mobile XT it's not possible to add voice alerts. This task is automatic, there are different bells for speedcam and speed of your car if it's over speed limit.

This may help,
I download all my pois to a folder on my desktop .
You must have the Garmin POI Loader programme installed to activate the poi
Open PIO Loader it will aske you which folder to access your pois
Select this folder and select the mode you want to use
This will automatically install your POIs to the appropriate folder
Hope this helps

You state 'I copied the .GPX files with the .BMP files and the sound files in the seperate files and then used the POI uploader to upload the files. '
I think you should put the .GPX .BMP and the sound files into the same folder, but not 'in the seperate files' as you stated.
Hope this can help you.

Use your POIEdit, it is a free...
You can open up any poi file from any gps eg navman, garmin etc...edit and save your files as a poi....gpx for garmin for example.
then just drag and drop into your pois folder on your garmin... you can make custom files this way....eg speed cams etc

Keep each POI gpx file in its own single directory.
Then using garmin uploader you can upload each directory containing a single file. It loads POIs as gpi.
This way you will keep seperate files on your garmin.

I don't know what version of POILoader you were using but with version 2.61 it will need to be run in each subfolder and will generate a GPI file defaulting to the name of the subfolder (although you can choose to alter it). So, in the above example you will end up with four (4) GPI files named Safety, Tourist_Locations, Shopping & Restaurants.
All I have to do now is figure out how to get the icons to show up, none of the suggestions in any of these forums has worked for me as of yet!
