Hello,
I have recently installed these POI's on my Garmin Mobile XT software. It works great but I have noticed that it shows the camera on the wrong side of the road.
Sometimes it will beaps and shows me the camera warning even if the camera is on the other side of the road.
Sometimes if i am travelling on the freeway, it will give me a warning beep and message even if the camera is on the street crossing the freeway.
Is this normal?
Advices Appreciated. |

I have similar situation.
I was driving on one road and warning was for other road.
I found that was because i have large proximity. I will reduce proximity to 100metars and see what will be.

| I am using the normal .GPX files, not the proximity downloads. How do we reduce proximity on the phone? or do we have to download the POI's again and then reload them?

From memory the standard proximity is 300 or 400 mtrs and I thing that increases if you're high speed mobile.
So yeah it will go nuts if you're anywhere in that radius.

| i read somewhere that a proximity of 150-200 is better for normal cameras (since u are driving at low speed and thus have more time to avoid) and higher such as 300 for high speed ones

Some cameras can get you no matter what side of the road you are on. It is hard to tell which cameras can, and which can not, so the machine is erring on the safe side. To be safe, you should just slow down no matter which side of the road you think it is on.

If you choose "Express" settings in POI Loader to load your POI, it will be set at default proximity, i.e. 36s * SpeedLimit. E.g. SpeedLimit = 40 kmh, Proximity = 0.4 km.
This can be changed if you use "Manual" mode in POI Loader.

I did not notice the situation you mentioned.
But I do not think it is a bad thing. You will not miss any warnings, just get a few more warnings which do not exist.

Doesn't matter really as long as your poi alerts you in time... Give and take a few metres...
However you can edit POI's and put into it the exact correct lat and lng coordinates.

Yep, this is normal.
One thing I think most people don't realise is that even thought the GPS can tell what altitude you are at, with respect to proximity, vertical distance is not taken into account so, if you are traveling over a bridge that has a speed camera underneath, it will still give you a warning.
I have had this happen to me even though the 'camera' was in a tunnel considerably underneath me.
