I also have an N95, usually takes around 3-5 min to get first lock. Seem the limitation is in the first generation GPS chipset in the Nokia phone. You can try turning on assisted GPS:
- tools / settings / general / positioning tab at the bottom - select positioning methods and select assisted GPS.
It should help you get a satellite lock faster.

I have had the same issue with my phone and it has the the lastest firmware and had everything inside the phone replaced with the latest models electronics(due to hardware failure under warranty), and my still took ages.
I have an E71 Nokia now and it is brilliant IMO to say the least. It will lock on to satellites very quickly.
I think the internal GPS device in the N95 is quite old technology.

I have a Nokia N95 and have soldered a small wire to the inside terminal of the gps, its on the base of the mainboard under the charging end of fone, get a lock inside and outside without any trouble, but be careful soldering as I took off the brass contacter on the fones mainboard and had to do a lot of work to rectify the problem......Only do this if you are 100% certain of what you are doing as this will void any warranty and may cause gps of fone some damage if not done correctly.
DO AT OWN RISK!!!!

| Well , who will open the set and do that. I think that is the oproblem of GPS on 1st Generation. Just allow network access and then it does it fast.

The n95 internal GPS is hopeless.
Get a bluetooth gps unit ( i got a cheapo $45 one) and it is worlds better than the n95 one.
n95 internal takes forever to lock on and often drops reception. Also, the phone is so slow anyway so when it drops it recalculates all the time which is really annoying.

Older phones take longer to connect... newer phones are quicker... it is a chipset thing...
Also have the latest garmin mobile xt installed.
